Who am I?
A Brief Introduction to Ashlyn Stephens:

Hello! My name is Ashlyn Stephens.

I am a recent graduate of the University of Cincinnati. Graduating with a B.S. in Middle Childhood Education (content focuses in math and Social Studies), I also obtained a minor in History, certificate in Digital Learning Design and a 4th-6th grade science endorsement to my teaching license.

As the undergraduate chapter of my time at UC comes to a close and I begin the job search, I can say with absoluteness that my time at UC and with the University Honors program has reflected and expanded upon my goals, passions, and interests.

The past five years have been an amazing journey. Starting in engineering, I followed my passion to the field of education and have had the opportunity to collaborate and work with numerous expert educators through class partnerships and student teaching (Bridgetown Middle School - 6th Grade Math). Throughout my college career, UHP has remained a highlight and has encouraged growth.

While at UC, I've had the opportunity to observe and participate in a variety of clubs and activities; each expanding my knowledge and perception of their relative topic. Being an honors ambassador for UHP was one of these experiences. By participating in UC's diverse courses and programs, I have come to truly value uniqueness and see the connections between disciplines, people and cultures. As an educator, I hope to inspire and facilitate similar developments among my students.

While I am currently uncertain of the immediate next step following graduation, It is my plan to find a position as a full-time educator for the 2022-2023 school year and begin pursuing my master's degree.

About Me

Regarding interests, I have diverse interests and find it difficult to narrow my interests down to a few distinct things. On the topic of ambition, I am passionate about education, learning about the world and the people in it as well as helping others. I want to learn, educate and embody what it means to be a “Global Citizen Scholar”. Regarding subjects, I find learning about other countries, their languages, cultures and history fascinating and hope to visit several countries while at UC. I also enjoy art and am interested in architecture, music and art/animation design. Architecture is one of my favorites topics that relates to my interest in other countries as well as each country has its own unique architectural trends. I traveled to Spain in 2015 with my high school Spanish class and had the chance to experience the incredible architecture of the Alhambra, La Sagrada Familia and various cathedrals; it was an experience I will never forget. Music is extremely important to me and I am uncertain that I could live without it. I played violin for 6 years in middle/high school and love all genres of music.

It is my dream to travel the world. If I could get paid for it, it would most definitely be my full-time profession. I am extremely grateful to have visited London, Paris and Normandy as part of a study tour with HIST3096: A Global History of World War II: Ideology, Culture, Politics; If you would like to read about my experience, please visit the "EXPERIENCES" page.

I greatly enjoy helping others—whether it’s something as small as helping someone with a homework problem they’re stuck on or larger issues. I have been in Girl Scouts since age 5 and continue to be one today as a lifetime member. I earned my Gold Award in 2016 for a community-wide walking and health awareness program. I am passionate about education and changed my major before my second year at UC to follow my interests and ambitions.

My results from the Clifton Strengths Assessment were:

1.      Relator

2.      Intellection

3.      Responsibility

4.      Individualization

5.      Achiever

As we learned when covering Clifton Strengths in Gateway to University Honors, my calculated strengths are culminations of my characteristics. Because my strengths are, essentially, a part of who I am, they will undoubtedly influence the plot of my story either through forming relationships with new people, using critical thinking to solve problems, completing projects/assignments to their specifications or reaching my goals-most of which I am still discovering. I am extremely hardworking and will not stop working on a project until it is completed-even if it takes staying up all night to finish it (a lot of personal experience there). It is this hard work and dedication that allowed me to achieve the title of Valedictorian in high school.
